Balancing homeschooling while working is no small task. Some days, I feel like a chicken running with my head cut off 🤪 juggling lesson, work deadlines, household responsibilities, and the endless needs of my little ones. It’s easy to feel stretched thin, overwhelmed, and unsure. You might ask yourself: Am I doing enough? Are my kids learning what they need? Did I make the right choice? I know I have!

But here’s the good news: You don’t have to do this alone!

God sees your efforts. He knows the weight you carry. And He is more than able to equip you for this season. Balancing work and homeschooling with faith isn’t about doing everything perfectly, it’s about trusting that God will fill in the gaps where you fall short.

The word Faith written with letter blocks

God Called You to This, and He Will Equip You

One of my favorite verses for homeschooling (and honestly, for motherhood in general) is 2 Corinthians 12:9:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

There will be days when you feel weak, when work takes over, when homeschool lessons don’t go as planned, when the house looks like a disaster zone, and when you’re running on coffee and prayers. This has happened to me numerous times and I start to feel defeated. But God’s grace meets you there.

He didn’t call you to homeschool while working because you have everything figured out, He called you because He will sustain you.

Let Go of the Pressure to Do It All

One of the biggest struggles of balancing work and homeschooling is feeling like you’re constantly falling short. You might wonder:

  • Am I spending enough time with my kids?
  • Is my child learning what they need?
  • How do I get everything done when there are only 24 hours in a day?

The truth? You don’t have to do everything at once.

Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Trusting God in this journey means letting go of perfection and leaning into His grace. Your homeschool doesn’t have to look like a traditional school day. Some seasons will be more structured, while others will be more flexible—and that’s okay. This is something that I’ve learned and have to remind myself constantly of. I think that sometimes we become our worst critic. We start thinking that everybody else is getting everything done ALL OF THE TIME, and that’s just not true. It’s definitely not true in my case, LOL!

Practical Ways to Balancing Work and Homeschooling with Faith

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, here are a few ways to invite God into your homeschool and find balance in your busy days:

  1. Start the Day with Prayer – Before the emails, lesson plans, and to-do lists, take a moment to pray. It doesn’t gave to be a 1/2 hour prayer. Just ask God for wisdom, patience, and energy to get through the day.
  2. Create a Flexible Schedule – Some days, lessons happen in the morning; other days, they might fit in the afternoon, evening or weekends. Homeschooling isn’t about a rigid schedule, it’s about what works for your family. (Read more about how we manage our homeschooling schedule here)
  3. Make Learning a Lifestyle – Education isn’t just about workbooks. Reading a story at bedtime, baking together, or discussing history during dinner all count as learning moments.
  4. Give Yourself Grace – Some days, work will take more of your attention. Other days, homeschooling will. Neither makes you a failure. Trust that God is working through both.
  5. Lean on Your Support System – Whether it’s your spouse, family, or a homeschooling community, don’t be afraid to ask for help. You don’t have to do this alone. If it wasn’t for my husband’s and in-laws, homeschooling and working wouldn’t be a possibility for us. It’s all about teamwork. If you don’t have family near by, but have very close friends, they can help too.

You Are Not Alone in This Journey

Homeschooling and working isn’t easy, but God is with you. He sees the sacrifices, the late nights, and the moments of doubt. He knows your heart’s desire to do right by your children. And He is faithful to give you exactly what you need for each day.

So take a deep breath, mama. You are doing an amazing job! Keep trusting, keep loving, and keep showing up. God is with you every step of the way.
