Making pan fried salmon is one of the easiest and quickest meals to make in my home. This is especially important as a busy full-time working mom. It is also one of my family’s favorite meals – yes this includes my 6 and 10 year old.

So, typically this makes it into my weekly meal plan on a regular basis!

Pan fried salmon

Why is this easy pan fried salmon recipe so great?

Well for starters, it doesn’t need a whole lot to taste delicious. Especially if you are able to get a fresh center-cut fillet with the fat evenly distributed. 🤤 We only eat fresh salmon! For some reason we are not so keen on the frozen stuff.

It takes very little time and effort to prepare and cook. It’s done in under 20 minutes and doesn’t need a whole lot of stuff on it. This is especially important if you are a super busy mom with very little time to spare.

Everybody loves it! This is not a weird tasting or looking fish. We typically eat this family style and as soon as I serve it on the table the whole family starts claiming their piece! 😂

No need to be intimidated!

I don’t know why, but there is something about cooking fish in general that intimidates people. (I use to be one of them lol) I guess it’s because we want it to look and taste good, but aren’t quite sure how to go about it.

The great thing about making this pan fried salmon recipe is that it’s a very low risk dish. You pretty much let the salmon do most of the hard work!

So, are you ready to give it a try? Here’s my easy pan fried salmon recipe!

Cooking the salmon

  • Heat up your pan on medium heat.
  • Melt the 2 tbs of butter.
  • Once butter is melted, place skinless side of salmon fillets down first. Sear for 5 minutes. This will give it a nice sear and color!
  • Flip the fillets over to the skinned side of the salmon. ( I use a spatula and a tong to do this)
  • Use a lid to cover the salmon to allow it to cook thoroughly.
  • Lower the heat to low.
  • Let the salmon cook for about 8-10 minutes.
  • Do a temperature check on the thickest part of the fillet. It should read 145 degree, depending on how thick the fillets are.
  • Once your salmon is done, remove from heat.
  • Serve with a side of white rice, glazed carrots, green beans, roasted potatoes or over a simple fresh salad.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

*Use fresh salmon fillets with the skin on- the skin will get nice and crispy, so you can enjoy eating that too!
*Try to choose a fillet with fat evenly distributed for best flavor and a center cut of the salmon for even cooking.
*Use a spatula and tongs to help you flip the salmon (that’s how I do it 🤪)
*serve with a slice of fresh lemon to give it one final squeeze if you’d like!
